Help sought for family of cats

Recently, I have found a group of (10-12) cats and kittens who live in a bush.

This discovery prompted me to call the Mississauga Animal Shelter to ask for help in finding shelter for these animals.

I was shocked when I was told that cats are not picked up unless contained.

Once they are picked up they are put to sleep immediately since they are classified as "wild".

I explained that a portion of these cats are between the ages of 3-5 months of age thinking that this would make a difference.  From my past experience as a Veterinary Assistant, I have seen so called "wild" cats adapt to a "domesticated" life.  This would seem even more possible when they are kittens.  Nevertheless these cats remain in the bush without adequate shelter.

I am writing to ask individuals and groups for their help in four ways:

1. To donate wood, plywood, etc. for use to build adequate shelter.

2. To donate dry cat food (this will provide me with a supply for the winter).  I will feed them at various times without establishing a routine as it would encourage them to become dependent.

3. To adopt a cat – This person must be aware that there is the possibility that it may not work out and that these cats will need plenty of attention and love to help them adapt.  They will also need to see a Veterinarian.

4. Any support given to help me build cat shelters and to possibly relocate these cats to a field which is approximately one block away.  This new location would provide plenty of land and is a safe distance from the main roads.

I am calling on the public to assist me in my goal of securing these cats for the winter.  Ideally, I would like to find homes for them.  If you feel that you would like to help please call me as soon as possible as it is getting colder each day.  I would also like to mention that I will not be accepting money for personal reasons.
