!! surrounding community !!
In the area marked there would normally be 6 to 10 lots with single homes that are in keeping with the character of the community, there is planned for a townhouse subdivision. 30, three bedroom townhouse and 5 free stand homes (black area), over 100 people easily added and that is just the beginning. The City wants the deep lots to be bought up and townhouses poured in, thats' what the City has zoned the residents' property for! "INTENSIFICATION"
And the developer agrees, "under Mayor McCallion direction she likely to encourage developers and communities to look at planning that just goes beyond one lot at a time, so it takes into account the merits of a particular area. This site is fantastic. It is truly fantastic, given the depth of the property, the previous use, the contamination on the site, I mean, truly it is going to be a great benefit to the community when it is done." "benefit to the community", how so?
Benefit to taxpayers or tax collectors??
Ward 1, Councillor Carmen Corbasson is
blunt, "If I were you sir, I would worry about your taxes going up".
The Mayor spells it out "you will know is when the assessor comes around".
The City knows how the system works and knows how to milk a gullible community
for all its tax dollars!
But you can still speak up on this issue!
INTENSIFICATION means the elimination
of the existing stable, health and productive community and dropping townhouse
subdivisions bombs, (or worse over time) into what should remain single
house lots. Tripling, Quadrupling or more the population and traffic
problems. Given the facts what else could it be? Moldenhauer
Developments say - "it is truly a transitional area, we recognize that.
And in fact part of the risks with this site is that it is a transitional
area. And that you have some of you know the older housing stock,
older housing product, that, you know, in the area as generous as this,
it is natural for them to be redeveloped."
NO, it is not natural or the right thing to do!
Those who live on both sides of the Cawthra Bush
should take note, developers want to make you give up your land.
The end result will destroy our community and the Natural Heritage Treasure,
the Cawthra Bush. This is what happens when a City is run like a
business, your personal property is treated like "The Corporation of the
City of Mississauga" own assets & you are expendable in the City's
pursuit of MONEY and Profit. We worked hard to make this a
great community to live in, now the City is selling it and us out!
There will be a meeting, City hall Dec. 9/03, Tuesday, 7pm, 2th floor
hearing room, your last chance to say no to townhouses that will destroy
our community character and the Cawthra Bush.
